Perhaps you want “a bit of extra fuel in the tank” on some special occasions, or maybe you are going through some other tough times, with stress, lack of sleep or perhaps some physical illness of some sort that makes your erections a bit of a hit or miss.

Ok, enough talk already, let’s jump to the good stuff…

How long does it take to cure PIED (Porn induced erectile dysfunction)

The short answer is that it is different for everyone. But that answer doesn’t really seem to satisfy people who are desperately searching for an answer. So I will give you a few rough guidelines as long as you remember to take them with a grain of salt because the truts is, it IS very individual.

Medium severe PIED

  • Older guys who were sexually active before getting hooked on porn: 2-4 months
  • Older guys who did not have much contact with the opposite sex prior to getting hooked on porn: 3-6 months
  • Younger guys who were sexually active before getting hooked on porn: 3-8 months
  • Younger guys who became hooked before being intimate with a real person: 5-12 months

Younger vs older – why does it matter?

  1. By younger I mean guys who were about 21 or younger when getting hooked on porn
  2. By older I mean guys who were who were about 22 or older when getting hooked on porn

In our early teens the brain is at its peak plasticity, meaning it is easier to “program it” to our surroundings and with whatever activity we do. This also means that if get hooked on porn at this age, we wire our sexual responses to pixels on a screen much more deeply into the brain then if we get hooked in our twenties.

Unfortunately, guys who started at a very young age tend to take longer to recover from porn induced ED.

How long does it take to cure severe PIED

Another thing to note is that PIED is not an on / off switch. Some people only have mild PIED while others have severe PIED and this makes the question “how long does it take to cure porn induced erectile dysfunction” even more difficult to answer.

If you have only mild PIED then you may subtract about 2 months form the months in green you saw a couple of lines earlier.

If you, on the other hand have severe PIED you might have to add 2-6 months more months.

But, again, try not to worry so much about how long it will take. Just know that by staying away from porn, you WILL get better. And just because you may have sluggish erections right now, you don’t need to put your life on hold…

…on the contrary, it is important that you get out there and live life.

…no, you nee to get out there and do some living.

How To Speed Up PIED Recovery – Kickstart Libido

Time and patience are your best friends, and you need to let it take time. But if you are someone that seem to be stuck in a “deadzone” in a period that seems like forever, you might consider “kickstarting” your libido…

Realize that not everyone who abstains from porn and everything sexual experience a sudden explosion of super erections once they pass a certain amount of days. No, for many people it happens gradually and for some the libido remains sleeping until they start doing things to wake it up again.

These may include things like…

  • Spending a lot of time around real life girls
  • Hugging, kissing and fooling around
  • Gentle and slow sex
  • Getting a massage
  • Even massaging your self
  • Masturbating without porn (this one is controversial and not something you should do in the beginning of your reboot)

Whatever the case is for you, if things do not seem to improve, realize that you may have to “kickstart” your libido again and that is 100% ok, but DO NOT USE PORN to do so.

Even giving your penis a bit of attention with some light massaging by yourself can help kickstart your libido. Just remember to not fantasise about porn if you choose to do that.

Does NoFap kill your sexdrive…

No, but here’s the deal…

It is important to remember that most people who have developed addiction related brain changes will fall into a flatline after quitting PMO. This happens most often in week two after quitting, but again, it’s a bit different from person to person.

Does NoFap ruin your libido?

During the flaltline it is very normal to have little to no libido, and during the first weeks of your reboot I would not recommend you go crazy with trying to “kickstart” your libido. Only when you have completely abstained from all sexual stimuli for a period of time would I start doing this.

Of course, hugging and cuddling is ok from the very first day, but if your penis don’t work then do not try to force an erection by using some death grip masturbation just to “rewire”. That said, slow and gentle sex (preferably without orgasm at this early stage) can be done from the very first month if you are able to achieve an erection firm enough for penetration…

…if not, just give it more time.

How to get over PIED fast

No no no!

This is the wrong mindset and you are much better off if you accept the fact that this is a journey and that it has to take the time it needs. So forget the “fast” part, but do remember that you do not have to stop living while you recover.

You can still do all your normal things (well except fapping to porn) and there is no need for you to put your life “on hold”.

If you realize that, it does not really matter how long it takes because as soon as you start to see some signs of improvement, you’ll get more motivated and even enjoy the process of getting stronger in every way.

What about the erections – Are there things we can do that help?

Remember that I told you that PIED is not an “on / off” thing?

Well this means that of course there are some tools and tricks that might help your weak erections during flatline or during your reboot journey.

Now, granted, a lot of them may not do anything for you at all, but if you are not in a severe deep flatline, then you might find at least some of the tools helpful for increasing your erectile quality during your reboot.

Of course, the further into the reboot you are, the more effective the erection tools and tips I share on this page will work for you. And if you find non of them to work at all, then you have severe PIED and just need to accept the fact that you need more time…

…and that’s ok!

NOTE: The tools are not a substitute for rebooting!

Lastly, I do want to point out that if you have porn induced ED these erection tools are NOT a substitute for rebooting from porn. But I don’t have to tell you that, do I ? you already know that right?

Tips For Harder Erections During and After a PMO Reboot


Tip # 1 Eat foods high in nitric oxide!

Nitric oxide is a vasodilator. This means it relaxes the inner muscles of your blood vessels, and thereby causing the vessels to widen and significantly increase blood flow. This is especially noticeable in the smaller blood vessels, like the ones you have in your penis.

Here are some super nitric oxide foods…

  • Leafy green vegetables (For example spinach and arugula)
  • Pomegranates
  • Walnuts
  • Beets (These are super. If you choose to go the juice route, choose a product with low sugar)
  • Green herbs (like for example cliantro)
  • Rhubarb (Oh it’s sour, but it is a good source of nitric oxide)
  • Dark Chocolate (Don’t just choose any candy bar here. Make sure the chocolate contains at least 80% cacao)
  • Spirulina 
  • Citrus or other fruits high in vitamine C, like lemon and oranges
  • Watermelone

Whether you have porn induced ED or your sluggish erections are caused by something else, good blood flow to the genital areas is extremely beneficial for your sexual health.

Even though PIED is caused in the brain, having a good blood flow down there my cause a tingly sensation and that in turn may help trigger and wake your sexual arousal circuit in your brain.

We have always known that what goes on in the brain affects our body, but later years we have started to understand that bot  goes on in our bodies affects the brain just as much…

…if not even more so. So good blood flow and tingly sensations may indeed help wake up your brains sexual center.

And one more thing, nitric oxid also improves brain health and it would not be fare fetched to think that anything that is good for your brain health, might also help speed up brain recovery from porn induced ED.

Tip # 2 Do reversed kegel exercises

You may have come across some websites or magazine articles about how kegel exercises can give you harder erections. This is normally the case, but if you are a former porn addict you don’t want to do normal kegel exercises for getting stronger erections. What you want to be doing is REVERSED kegel exercises.

Let’s first take a short look at what they are, and after that I’ll tell you why NOT to do normal kegel exercises…

  • Normal kegel exercises

If you had to stop the flow of urine while you are peeing, you had to tighten the small muscles between you anus and your balls. This is not hard to do, and everyone can pretty much do it instinctively.

Well, a normal kegel exercise is when you tighten those muscles as hard as you can (not when you are peeing) and then hold them tight for about 5 seconds, then you relax for 5 seconds and then tighten them again. You do this for about 10 reps or so….

…but again, do NOT do these!

  • Reversed kegel exercises

Imagine yourself peeing again and this time you do not try to stop the flow of urine, but instead you try to speed it up. So instead of tightening everything up own there, It’s a pushing movement.

Here’s how you do it….

  1. Do that pushing movement in a pretty relaxed way
  2. Hold the push for about 10 seconds
  3. Stop for about 5 seconds
  4. Hold again for 10 seconds
  5. Stop for about 5 seconds
  6. Repeat from #2 until you gone about 10-15 reps

Try to be relaxed while doing it and feel how the exercise increases blod flow to your pelvic flor.

Why not normal kegels?

The reason we don’t want to be doing the normal kegel exercises is because of the porn addiction history. Think about it, we have been sitting in front of the computer fapping, often for hours at end.

Sitting and masturbating is not good, it makes the small muscles in the pelvic flor too short and too tight and that will have a negative effect on blood flow and on our ability to achieve a strong erection.

What’s even worse is that, some porn addicts start to have weak erections during their fapping sessions and in order to counteract this they tighten the pc muscles and do a kegel movement in order to push the blood into the penis. This will of course make the tight pelvic flor even tighter with time.

Reverse kegel exercises during sex or masturbation

So now you know why NOT to do normal kegel exercises and why you should do the reversed kegel exercises instead. You can even do reversed kegels during sex as it helps maintain a stronger erection in a natural way. Just don’t do it if you ar gassy because…

….well, the pushing movement could lead to an embarrassing accident, if you know what I mean.

If you chose to masturbate (without using porn) then it is also good to do reverse kegels during your masturbation session. It will help your erection health be keeping everything nice and flexible down there. Speaking of a tight pelvic flor, let’s move on to the next tip…

 Tip # 3 – Go down in a squat position several times daily

You want to go down even further (as far as you can) than they boy is doing in the picture and keep you feet a bit wider apart than he is doing. Put you hands on your knees and use your hands to push your legs even wider apart (but not too hard).

Stay down in that squat position for about 1-2 minutes and try to relax your pelvic floor as much as you can while down there. Think that you are breathing warm air all the way into your balls.

This will help you erections, and here’s why….

Well, as you remember from tip # 2, most porn addicts have a tight pelvic floor and this is a phenomenal exercise for loosening up the muscles.

I recommend you do it a few times on a daily basis.

For how long, you say?

Well, I still do them to this day and I have been recovered for many years already, but the squat stretching exercise is so healthy for you neder regions that I just like to keep doing them…

…probably for the rest of my life.

Tip # 4 Try Tribulus terrestris

Tribulis terrestris is a small leafy plant that has for a long time now been sold to for example bodybuilders with the claim that it raise testosterone levels, but you don’t have to dig into the science literature for log before you find studies showing that it actually does not increase your testosterone…

…disappointing!

Yeah well, not so fast. Even though studies show that it does not increase testosterone, research show that it actually still increases libido.

For example one study found that when men with a very low libido consumed 750-1500mg daily for two months, their sexdrive increased by a whopping 79%.

Another thing to note about the Tribulus is, that while it may not increase testosterone itself, it  still seems to increase androgen receptor density. Those are receptors that testosterone binds to, so the net result may actually be a better utilization of testosterone and thus, give the same effects as if testosterone itself would be higher…

…pretty cool, huh?

Tip # 5 Try mindfulness masturbation (CONTROVERSIAL!)

This is not something you should do in the beginning of your reboot. It is more for people who already have been rebooting for a couple of months.

As we touched on in the beginning of this post, if you have been rebooting for a long time, and you still don’t see any signs of libido, you might have to kickstart it. This can be done in several ways and as long as you don’t use porn, there is nothing wrong with some slow and gentle massaging of your genitals.

Here’s what I recommend…

  • Use a standing position
  • NO PORN!!!!!
  • Breath slowly (in through your nose for 6 seconds and out through your mouth for 8 seconds)
  • Close you eyes (imagine hugging, kissing and cuddling with a girl. It can not be a pornstar or an actress. It has too be someone you have seen in real life, as we don’t want to strengthen the porn pathways in your brain)
  • Use  a light grip and masturbate slowly (keep thinking of that girl and keep the slow breathing going. Don’t even bother to check how erect you get. That does not matter)
  • Do the reverse kegel movement while masturbating (be as relaxed as possible, this is also why we do the slow breathing simultaneously)
  • Don’t orgasm (this one is of course up to you, but personally I found better results when not orgasming)
  • Do it for about 4-8 minutes

If you do it like described above, it will absolutely not hurt your reboot.

Now, some extreme NoFap coaches on YouTube would say to “never again touch your dick”, but I think they are WAY too extreme and following their advice may actually prolong the reboot for many guys.

I actually did the mindfulness masturbation myself to kickstart my own libido when I was rebooting and it really works. And even though I no longer have any problems I still use it sometimes to this day if I want to feel the so called “superpowers” that the NoFap guys are talking about.

Here’s how I use it for “superpowers”

I realize “superpowers” sounds corny, but it’s only a fun term for describing increased confidence, energy and focus for me, so let’s just roll with it, ok…

Now, this only works if you have a semen retention streak going for at least 14 days and if you have healed your brain from the negative effects of porn.

Do the mindfulness masturbation for about 8 minutes to really get your sexdrive going. Do NOT ejaculate, and then immediately after your session, go out and spend time around real life girls.

By doing this, you will feel much more attracted to them, and somehow it is like they notice your energy and you might notice increased attention form them. I honestly do not know how that works….but yeah, for me and thousands of other guys it seems to work.

One last thing;  if you are in the beginning of your reboot I don’t think that the mindfulness masturbation will work for getting superpowers. At least not for most guys. I would recommend staying away from it if you are in your first couple of months of rebooting.

Tip # 6 Try VigRX Plus

For me, this one is the most effective tool out of all the tools you can find on this page. When it comes to libido and fuller erections, it completely dwarfs the tribulus terrestris I talked about in Tip# 4.

If you really struggle with weak erections during or after NoFap I highly recommend you try the VigRX erection and libido boster.

I have made a detailed VigRX Plus review in another post, so I won’t get into  all the details about it on this page, however, let me just say that I used the VigRX with great success during my own reboot.

For me it worked well for improving erections during flatline…

Even during the times I was in a pretty deep flatline it worked and I got significantly fuller, harder erections and went from “a dead feeling” to having a pretty high sex-drive.

I think this is because it works on both blood flow to the penis AND on the arousal center in the brain and that’s why it even worked better than real Viagra did for me, during my periods of very low libido. (Yes I really did tried everything, every natural supplement and every prescription drug)

I also use another really good product for erections and libido, but I think VigRX is perhaps a bit more effective for stronger erections during flatline or during a low libido period when rebooting.

The other product does also increase libido and boost the erection quality, but increases testosterone levels more than VigRX, but I’ll talk more about that product, further down in this article…

Tip # 7 Take dance classes

Signing up for dance classes can be a phenomenal way to weak your sleeping libido

I don’t think you can find a better way to rewire your sexual responses to real life girls than to participate in a few dance classes.

You will be around many different females and and most of your senses are also highly involved…

  1. Touch
  2. Smell
  3. Sight
  4. Hearing

When you get home your brain will start processing the day, and having spent a big part of it like this, it won’t take long until your sleeping libido starts to wake up….

…it is just SO healthy, and again, I’m speaking from experience here!

Now, don’t expect your sex drive to explode the very first time you go to a dance class, it will probably happen gradually and even if it doesn’t, you still pushed your comfort zone, which is a good thing AND…

…you learned a new skill and perhaps got some new female friends. By the way, most girls love a man who know his way around the dance floor.

P.S. It would be a PHENOMENAL opportunity to do the mindfulness masturbation, that I talked about in tip # 5, prior to the dance classes. If you did that, man, it would not surprise me if you shortened you got your libido back in no time, and if you do it, you might also find  the women to be all over you once you get there…

Tip # 8 Take daily cold showers

One of the most common “side effects” people who take daily cold showers mention, are an increase in…

  1. Mood
  2. Energy
  3. Sex-drive

Well, what do you think boosting those three could do for waking up your sleeping libido?

The increased mood is also something important to consider, as low mood and depression really suppress your libido. That’s right, even to the point of perhaps not knowing when your flatline otherwise would be over.

Now, I know I know, the cold showers are painful, but you will feel amazing after taking them.

Many NoFappers have them in their toolbox as they travel on their NoFap journey, so why not at least try them out?

Personally, I started doing them during the very first year of my own reboot and I still do them to this day.

 Tip # 9 Optimize your testosterone levels

This is the product I use nowadays. AlphaViril increases both testosterone AND dopamine! 

I think everyone knows that high levels of testosterone most often also means a high sex drive.

There are two main players in libido.

  1. Dopamine
  2. Testosterone

And for a strong libido with hard erections, we really need both of them. If you have high dopamine levels, but your testosterone is way too low, there wont be much fun in your bedroom.

Likewise, if your testosterone levels are high, but your dopamine signaling does not work, your girlfriend will have to keep looking for more sex toys.

This is where my second favorite supplement enters the picture…

….the one I talked about in Tip# 6.

It’s called AlphaViril and that supplement is a Testosterone AND dopamine booster.

That’s right, it increases both of them. And as far as the testosterone goes, I have even confirmed that it works by taking blood tests.

Tip # 10 Foods to eat for more testosterone

Speaking of testosterone, it also helps to eat foods that promote your bodys own testosterone production.

You want to eat foods that are high in fats, in particular saturated fats. Forget about the “fat is bad for you myth”. It’s about time we forget that silly myth by now.

Over 80% of the cholesterol found in your blood is produced by your liver anyway, no matter what you eat. .

Here are some foods you want to make sure you have on your plate, several times a week…

  • Whole eggs
  • Grass fed beef
  • Oysters
  • Tuna and Salmon
  • Pomegranates (no fat here, but studies have shown that they increase testosterone levels)
  • Onions and garlic (also no fat here, but again, research show they promote testosterone production)
  • Coconut oil

You also want to REDUCE your estrogen levels…

Estrogen is called the female sex hormone, and as men, we don’t want too much of it as it will suppress our testosterone production.

Here are a few things to consider…

  • Don’t be overweight (too much fat on your body means more estrogen)
  • Don’t drink water from plastic bottles (PET-plastic contains compounds that mimic estrogen in the body)
  • Avoid drinking alcohol, especially beer. (beer is a major estrogen “booster”)
  • Avoid soy foods
  • Don’t do too much cardio (a small amount is fine, of course, but too much will increase your cortisol levels, raise your estrogen and reduce your testosterone levels)

Tip # 11 Physical exercise

You probably saw this one coming, right? Well, there is a big reason for it as physical exercise, if done right, will help you…

  • Lower your stress hormone cortisol
  • Increase your testosterone levels
  • Increase dopamine AND dopamine receptor density
  • Increase blood flow
  • And much more

All of those first 4 things will help your sexual health.

For example, did you know that cortisol and testosterone have an invers relation, meaning when your cortisol levels raise, your testosterone drops, and when cortisol drops, your testosterone increase.

What kind of exercises is best for better erections and for more libido?

All physical exercise is great, as long as you don’t do cardio for very long sessions. If you like cardio, try not to do go any longer than 45 minutes, just to avoid chronic elevated cortisol levels.

If I had to choose a TOP 3 exercise list for improving your erections, it would be…

  • Weighted back squats
  • Deadlifts
  • High intensity intervall training (for example sprints)

So now you might be saying, but hey, we already talked about squats in Tip#3!

That’s right, but that was stretching exercises that you can do at home, without using weights, in order to stretch and get a healthy functioning pelvic floor…

…you should still do those, even if you do “real squats” in the gym.

Squats and deadlifts are the best two exercises you can do to increase your testosterone levels. They will also build your glute muscles and that will also increase blood flow and sensitivity in your nether regions…

Tip # 12 Reduce stress and anxiety

And lastly, you want to reduce stress, worry and anxiety as much as you can. If you don’t think this is important, then let me ask you this…

Have you ever heard about guys not getting it up due to performance anxiety?

Of course you have!

We have all heard about it and many of us have experienced it. This also happens to 100% healthy guys, with high dopamine and testosterone levels that do not have any problems with porn addiction.

I’m just pointing that out to drive home the point that ANXIETY AND WORRY CAN INDEED COMPLETELY KILL BOTH YOUR SEX DRIVE AND YOUR ERECTIONS.

So if you are a person that tends to worry a lot, I highly recommend you start practising daily meditation. It will pay huge dividends for you in terms of lowered cortisol levels, a better ability to control your emotions and, hey…

…studies have even shown that meditation can increase your dopamine levels by up to 60%…

…so just do it!
