If you've been trying to give up porn for a while, but you find yourself relapsing back to it over and over, you have perhaps started asking yourself some questions.

Change your association…

Did you know that watching a lot of porn can cause real physical changes inside your brain?

No?

Indeed that is really the case, and one of those brain changes is called “sensitization”.

Sensitization is one of the four big brain changes that develop inside a persons brain when he or she becomes addicted to something.

You have created a super memory of pleasure…

Sensitization basically means that you have created a super memory of pleasure. In other words, your brain associates porn with great pleasure.

So now some of you may be thinking “No shit, Sherlock! Of course I associate porn with pleasure, that's why I started watching it in the first place!”

You're not wrong there, but sensitization is more than that.

Sensitization means that you have now become super sensitive to anything that reminds your brain of your porn sessions. Anything that reminds you of porn can now start giving you powerful cravings to go watch it, above and beyond just normal horniness.

So, even though you found porn very pleasurable when you started using it, these sensitized pathways were not yet formed back then.

What to do about it…

It's important to realize that you the sensitized pathways will become weaker the longer you stay away from porn, however once formed, they will unfortunately always be there deep inside your brain.

But that doesn't mean you're doomed to a life with constant relapses.

One thing you can do to try to trick your brain to stop watching porn is to change your association to porn.

Change your association by realizing that porn is actually robbing you of pleasure…

Instead of viewing porn as something you can use to escape the pain of life and a source of great pleasure, you have to start seeing it for what it's really doing to you…

Namely, today's online porn sites are so stimulating that they can cause a disrupted dopamine system in your brain.

When this happens your baseline levels of enjoyment and pleasure will drop and everything in life will seem less interesting, less appealing and less fun.

In other words, porn is not giving you pleasure, it is actually robbing you of joy and pleasure.

A disrupted dopamine system makes life much more boring…

Brain envy means you being very motivated to improve the health of your brain, because you really understand and realize how vital your brain is for everything in life. Brain envy is simply caring very much for your brain.

Now, it may sound simplistic and almost too easy, but it's actually a very effective strategy.

Make a routine out of reminding yourself…

A good way to develop brain envy is by creating a daily routine where you remind yourself of how sick and tired you are of suffering from some (or all) of the above mentioned symptoms.

Not only that, but you really go hard with reminding yourself of how having a healthy brain and acting out a porn addiction simply can not coexist.

Create a routine, like for example: every time you go to the bathroom, you remind yourself of what i just told you; that having brain envy and acting out your porn addiction simply can not coexist.

This is perfect because you go to the bathroom a few times every single day, so you get frequent reprogramming of your porn-pleasure association. I.e. you stop associating porn with pleasure and start associating it with pain.

But don't just stop there. End it on a positive not and picture yourself how where you could be three years from now, having achieved most of your goals while on top of that, having a strong and healthy brain.

Because…let's not sugarcoat it here…

Few things could be more cruel in life than having achieved some of your goals, but then having such a desensitized reward system that you won't even be able to enjoy it. Or finally getting your dream woman and not being able to enjoy feelings of love or having a healthy libido for her.
