Does Watching Porn Make You More Shy And Less “Alpha”?

Does Watching Porn Make You More Shy And Less Alpha?

So, does fapping to online porn make you more shy and introverted?

Kind of, more beta and less “alpha”, if you want to use those outworn terms?'

Well, take a look at this video I made a while back on my YouTube channel, Project Stronger Self, and you'll discover something interesting…

Pretty interesting, huh?

Here's something else I think you guys may find interesting…

I found a excerpt from a book called “Shyness and love” online, quoting a study about masturbation and shyness.

Check this out…

The book talks about looking at two groups of men (ages of 19-24)

  • One group consider themselves to be shy and timid.
  • The other group consider themselves to be “non shy” (more alpha like)

In a questionnaire they asked them to estimate how many times a week they self stimulated themselves to orgasm.

The results:

  • The shy group: 3.19 ejaculations per week via masturbation.
  • The more alpha men:  0.35 ejaculations per week via masturbation.

This is very interesting indeed, but there are two things I need to point out.

  1. I found the excerpt online, and I have not read the book myself so I can't vouch for the numbers or info being correct.
  2. We don't know how many people participated in the study.

Do shy people masturbate more because they don't go out as much, or does masturbation make make people more shy?

Also, since I'm a man that think it's very important to be flexible in his thinking, and avoid being dogmatic, I have to point out that correlation does not imply causation.

Meaning; it would not surprise anyone if shy people masturbate more because they feel they can't go out and talk to real people.

On the other hand, alpha men are out there, engaging with women and thus they perhaps don't feel the need to masturbate as much.

In other words, in studies like this, there's no way of knowing, with 100% certainty, if masturbation was the cause / result of shyness.

What I personally think…

I personally think that, in studies like that, it's a combination of both of those options.

I definitely think masturbation can cause shyness and cause a man to become less alpha. And then there are also those who are so shy so they never get with a real woman, and thus they only release with themselves, and so their numbers show in the questionnaire.

But here's what's even more interesting…

That book was written in 1987.

That's BEFORE internet and before online adult sites entered peoples lives.

If  masturbation in and of itself can cause men to become more shy and less Alhpa, just imagine what it can do when we throw today's super stimulating adult sites into the mix!!!

Because,  there there are actual science showing how that works.

The process…

  1. You overconsume a supernormal stimuli
  2. You get a down-regulation of your dopamine D2 receptors. (especially if you become addicted to it, but you don't have to be addicted in order for the receptors to get knocked out).

People, and animals,  who are more “Alpha” have more dopamine receptors…

Dominant animals and humans have more dopamine “D2” receptors…

Now, they have done studies, showing that for example dominant male monkeys have more dopamine receptors than monkeys who are less alhpa.

And it's the same with us humans.

Studies have shown that high status people, who are more alpha, have more dopamine receptors than people who are more shy and timid, or who are more “beta” (I actually don't like that word “beta”, but anyway…it gets the point across).

So yeah, I don't know about you, but I thought that was very interesting.

To sum everything up…

It looks like masturbating in and of itself can make men more shy, timid and less alpha. AND, if you then also throw porn into the mix (that messes with your dopamine receptors) well then you definitely got the perfect recipe for creating a shy, beta man with less guts and less “go get it attitude”.

By the way, it's not like I'm one of those anti-masturbation guys, even though I'm making NoFap videos on YouTube. I do recommend guys to be careful with online porn, since it's such a powerful stimuli, and since you easily become addicted to it, but it's hard to hurt yourself from masturbation in and of itself….

…I just found that study on dopamine receptors and personality traits to be very interesting.
